Argassi...Argassi is quite lively, but not overwhelmingly so. The bars, like most resorts on the island, are friendly & most of the nightlife is concentrated around the main street. It's not too far from other resorts like Vassilikos or Kalamaki if you want to explore. It's also close to Zakynthos Town, which means it's convenient for little shopping excusions. Transfer times from the Airport are reasonably minimal, though if the coach is going through Kalamaki first be prepared for an hour of sitting around. Click on the buttons to find out more... Argassi doesn't have much of a beach. There's a small (and crowded) man-made affair on the sea front and the views over to Zakynthos town are quite pleasant, but most Hotels & Appartments tend to have a pool. However, there's a free bus service every day that heads up to St. Nicolas beach in Vassilikos which is reasonably close and here you can find miles of golden sand & loads of watersports if you're the adventurous type. The Pyramid Club (map ref 1) is the biggest place in Argassi. I've heard good reports about it, though I've never been there of an evening myself. Oasis Bar (map ref 2) is run my luvable brummies, Ken & Jude. This bar probably has one of the best atmospheres in Argassi... the 'Carlsberg' of the resort, if you will (and Ken never tires of telling you so!). You'll find great cocktails and different entertainment on every night. There's games in the back (air hockey, pool, etc..) to keep the kids occupied, while the adults can have a few jars at the bar. The Wreck (map ref 3) is situated pretty central to the resort. Mark runs the joint and he's from Manchester, like myself. The bar has a open front and a sound-proofed back so that the DJ can carry on playing tunes after 12am & everyone can have a good party in the club. Great for the younger generation. Artemis (map ref 4) is on the Zakynthos Town end of the main road. It has more of a 'Rock' feel. So, if you still have long hair, a leather bikers jacket & you're over 40, get on down there. The Magic Mushroom (map ref 5) is on the main junction in Argassi. It's frequented a lot by workers in the late evening and it has a down-to-earth party atmos. I've only been to one or two restaurants in Argassi, so I can only inform you of these. However, I've heard that the Thai place is pretty good opposite the Green Frog (see below), but I've not had chance to try it myself. If you have any info yourself, please e-mail me through the link at the side. Papillion (map ref A) is an Italian style place on the main street. I only know about it because my mate Becky worked there! I had a nosh up there once and it was lovely... very filling too! The Green Frog (map ref B) is quite popular. It serves mostly English food, so is nice if you have problems with foreign cuisine. I think the owner looks a little like Tom Conte in Shirley Valentine too... Big Boys (map ref C) just had to get a mention. It's a fast food joint, but unlike McDonalds, it's really nice! The food tastes real and the garlic fries are out of this world. I wish Burger King & Maccy D's would take a leaf out of their book... Although you won't find McDonalds anywhere on the island, Big Boys outlets can be found in Zakynthos Town and Laganas, with the headquarters in Argassi. |
